Virtual Web Hosting is a service that allows you to have a fully functional and active website that is hosted on our servers as if you had your own server, but without spending the thousands of dollars on equipment and personnel.

4. What Operating System and Server Software is being used? back to top
As at May 2006, Chrysalis Hosting offers both Windows and Linux based hosting plans.
Our Linux based plans are powered by a customized version of RedHat called Fedora (see http://fedora.redhat.com for all the technical mumbo jumbo). These Fedora powered servers also run the very powerful, tried, proven and ultra-reliable Apache Web Server, along with Apache SSL for secure transactions.
Our Windows based plans are powered by Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (see http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/default.mspx for more info). If you need ASP / .NET support, Chrysalis Hosting has you covered.
5. What is a virtual/true domain? back to top
A virtual/true domain is having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a virtual domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however, you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal email address (you@your-name.com). Having your own domain name enables you to maintain the same email address (you@your-name.com) even if you change Internet providers.

For maximum reliability all our servers are all custom-built using the best components currently available in the industry. Yes. You can use your account for commercial purposes. 10. How long does it take to set up a new account? back to top
New accounts can be set up within an hour during normal office ours from the time we receive your order. Once your account is payment is processed you will be emailed your account login information (user ID, password & FTP hostname) along with some useful information to help you get started. You can immediately start uploading files to your new website. Domain account users will be given a temporary URL to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either domain registration or domain modification.

No. Since our primary focus is web hosting, we do not offer dialup access. For internet dialup service in Jamaica, Chrysalis Hosting recommends the services of InfoChannel

Yes. Our parent company, Chrysalis Communications can design web sites to suit all type of businesses from start-ups to large corporate sites.
13. How do I transfer files to my website? back to top
Files must be transferred to the web server via File Transport Protocol (FTP). Internet providers such as AOL, CompuServe, and Prodigy may have a built-in FTP interface. If you need FTP, Telnet, mail, or other Internet software, visit Shareware.com. We have links on our downloads page.
14. Will I have unlimited access to my site for updates? back to top
Yes. You have unlimited access via FTP 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your website at your leisure.
15. How can I tell how many visitors go to my website? back to top
Webalizer, a very powerful tool for graphically tracking visitors to your site, is included FREE with every account we provide. It provides you statistics on how long visitors were there, what pages they visited, and the order in which they were visited. With the advanced logging feature activated, it even captures what browser was being used and how the visitors found you, whether through a search engine or a website link

16. Can I access my domain without the "www"? back to top
Yes. You will be able to access your domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example: [http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer.
17. Do you support Java servlets? back to top
As at May 2006, all our hosting plans (with the exception of our Host4FREE plan) support JSP by way of Apache Tomcat. However, JSP is disabled by default for all domains. If you would like to have it enabled, at no charge, simply email your request to us at support(at)chrysalishosting.com and we will have it activated for you promptly. Be sure to let us know your domain name when you send in your request.
18. Can I password protect directories? back to top
Yes. The ENSIM control panel has an easy-to-use Web Password PowerApp, which enables you to password-protect one or more directories with multiple users. Since it uses .htaccess, FrontPage users must use the password protection function that is built into their software.
19. Will you place advertisements on my site? back to top
No. We do not place any advertisements on ANY sites that we host.
20. What type of databases do you support? back to top
Our linux-based hosting plans include support for mySQL, while our windows based hosting plans include support for msSQL.
21. How many MySQL databases can I create? back to top
Depends on the particular hosting plan that you sign up for. Our Host4FREE plan does not support databases, but all our other plans include support or anywhere between 1 and 20 databases. Plans with database support also include phpMyAdmin for the easy administration of databases.
22. Do you support PHP and CGI Scripts? back to top
Yes, we have pre-installed scripts available for you to use or you can install your own. Please see each individual hosting plan for which scripts are available.
23. Do you maintain backups of my data? back to top
You can back up and restore files as often as required directly to your local machine with our easy-to-use backup utility provided in your web control panel. We do also maintain backups of your sites for you on our end, but we recommend your own, periodic and automated backups.

Yes, you can host multiple domains in sub-directories of your main website.
26. Can I compile programs written in C and C++? back to top
Yes, if the account you choose includes Telnet access. The standard gcc compiler is used.
27. Will Server Side Includes (SSI) work on your servers? back to top
Yes. SSI's will parse on any page ending in .sht or .shtml.
